![]() That’s unacceptable for me since I often have multiple documents open along with way too many tabs for pages that I need to read, refer back to, or act on. Of course, Google Docs is a Web app, and by default, it would nestle in among all the other tabs in a Web browser. And when we migrated to our current WordPress-based content management system (see “ Next-Generation TidBITS Infrastructure in the Works,” 20 November 2017), we switched to doing all of our article writing and editing in Google Docs, which offers top-notch collaboration capabilities. During our BBEdit years, we switched the collaboration side to the Subversion version control system, essentially treating our text like code (see “ Wanted: Better Document Collaboration System,” 3 April 2006). When we used Nisus Writer Classic, we also relied on a fileserver running AppleShare over IP to collaborate on files using a classic IN (available for editing) and OUT (checked out by someone) folder/versioning/renaming scheme. Precisely which app we rely on for TidBITS has changed over the years, starting with Nisus Writer Classic, then BBEdit, and now Google Docs. ![]() I would say that, especially when talking about plugins that come with the softwware, LMMS is shockingly impressive for a free software. However I don't want to understate how powerful some of the plugins in LMMS are. ![]() I want to point out that a lot of what makes this aspect better in FL Studio is FL's popularity, the different types of technical difficulties you might come upon, and tricks you might find interesting have likely already been experienced and thoroughly discussed online because so many people use FL. However FL comes with a nice array of pre-loaded plugins like Gross-Beat, that are quite powerful. I don't want to say that LMMS isn't capable of accommodating these plugins because I am not super computer literate and it is possible that there are ways to make it work. The VST and Plugin Support is probably one of the biggest advantages to FL Studio I noticed immediately. Visually FL Studio is much prettier than LMMS, LMMS has a very stripped back retro-vibe while FL Studio has a very hi-tech look with lots of colors and graphics. Before I get into this I want to point out how impressed I've become with LMMS as a free software in comparison to the 200-300 dollar competitors I've been using LMMS for about 2 years and recently decided to try a paid DAW, specifically FL Studio, I wanted to talk a little bit about the differences I've noticed and give some insight to those of you who may be using LMMS as your DAW of choice, especially if it is your first one. ![]() For the most part, combat is not terribly complicated and enemy AI is easy to exploit, making the possibility for flawless runs almost always feel within reach. On the flipside, if you complete dungeons without losing any life you receive bonus bloodstones for achieving "flawless revenge."īecause of this risk and reward structure, Skeletal Avenger has a somewhat awkward difficulty curve. Death resets your progess on the dungeon you were working your way through and takes away some of your accumulated bloodstones for good measure. With these abilities alone, you need to try and stay alive across as many dungeons as possible to rack up your collection of bloodstones.Īs a run-based game with roguelike elements, Skeletal Avenger punishes players who can't stay alive. As you dungeon crawl, you have a primary weapon in tow that has two unique attack buttons, a limited dash ability, and the power to remove your head and chuck it at enemies. Killing bosses grants you bloodstones which are a currency that unlocks harder levels with more powerful bosses that live in other dungeon types. It's one of those premises that is so dumb that it's cool, but what it translates to is wandering through procedurally-generated multi-floor dungeons where you kill mobs of enemies, avoid traps, and find upgrade abilities and loot before facing off with a big bad boss. ![]() Skeletal Avenger is a top-down action game where you play as a pissed off skeleton who has been reanimated to get back at those that contributed to their demise. Many of these are too dim to see with the naked eye, but the ones on our map do appear nice with binoculars or a small telescope. Next to the magnitude scale are the symbols we use for deep-sky objects. A star of magnitude 0.0 appears 100 times brighter than a star of magnitude 5.0. In keeping with ancient tradition, the fainter a star, the higher its magnitude. We show the scale for our map at the lower left corner. Astronomers measure a star's brightness on what's called the magnitude scale. On our map, we show brighter stars as bigger circles. But a map with nothing but small points on it wouldn't help much. In April, only Saturn appears in the late-evening sky.Īll stars appear as points of light to the naked eye. All the solar system's planets lie near the ecliptic, so this is the area to look for our celestial neighbors. Of course, the Sun is not out at night, but the ecliptic still serves a useful function. The brownish line you see curving from southeast to northwest represents the ecliptic - the apparent path of the Sun across our sky. The exact times appear at the top left of the map, but the sky doesn't change a lot within an hour or two of these times. Each month's map depicts the sky in late evening, after twilight has faded completely. And the map gives a good approximation of the sky from as far north as 50° latitude and as far south as 20°. We plot the stars on the StarDome as they appear from 35° north latitude, so the map works well if you live between 25° and 45°. To find the other bright stars and constellations scattered across April's evening sky, simply turn the map to match the direction you're facing. Here you'll see the large constellation Ursa Major, with its group of seven bright stars known as the Big Dipper. Go back to Leo and Virgo, then crane your neck and look straight overhead. ![]() This arrangement looks odd when you look down on the map, but it's perfectly logical as you look up. Note that as you face south with the map overhead, east lies to your left and west to your right. The planet Saturn currently lies in southern Leo, below it as you look up. More than halfway up in the sky, you'll see two of spring's bright constellations: Leo and Virgo. Turn the map 90° counterclockwise and place the yellow "S" at the bottom. Next, shift your gaze to the southern sky. Only part of Orion remains visible, while the bright star Procyon and Gemini's twin stars, Castor and Pollux, appear prominent higher in the west. Late on April evenings, you'll see the stars of winter descending toward the horizon. Find the big yellow "W" on the map's right side, and orient it so the "W" lies at the bottom as you look due west. I've mounted this map on cardboard to make it easier for you to see how to use it.īecause the sky lies overhead, we designed the map to be held above your head. Open it to the center, and you'll see the fold-out map we call the StarDome. I happen to have the April 2009 issue with me. Like in the movie, Cady ended up eating alone on her first day in a bathroom stall due to her not making any friends on the first day. By the start of her senior year she is dating Aaron and he was now attending Northwestern University, but they see each other on weekends.Ĭady is introduced in the musical number It Roars. After the math competition, Cady arrives just in time to win Spring Fling Queen and elects to break and share the plastic crown, with everyone including Regina.Īfter that redemption she becomes what she calls an Actual Human Being. After talking with her parents, Cady decides to suck the poison out of her life, starting with Regina. Norbury, who forgives her but hints that she knows others were involved. At this point Regina knew Cady was sabotaging her and decided to take-down the remaining Plastics by publishing the Burn Book.Īfter chaos erupts in the school because of the Burn Book, Cady takes full responsibility for writing it. Regina walks in as Cady vomits on him, which causes her to storm out and eat a Kälteen Bars (that Shane Oman explains are calorie-dense and will cause her to gain weight). Cady tries to explain herself but does it extremely poorly, offending him and causing him to call her a clone of Regina.
